While Coastal Christmas Decor focuses mostly on holiday lighting, we also offer permanent lighting services as well through our sister company, Coastal Virginia Lighting. Recently, we had the opportunity to work with Old Dominion University (ODU) to update the lighting at their Ted Constant Convocation Center, a nearly 220,000 square foot multi-purpose arena that brings top performers to the Norfolk area and is home to the ODU men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The Issue
ODU called Coastal Christmas Decor to replace the existing Christmas lighting that was installed on their building. The lighting had been left up year-round for 20 years. Upon inspection, we quickly realized that we couldn’t update their existing lights due to safety hazards. Most Christmas lights are only designed to be used for 90 days per year. Using the lights longer than recommended can lead to dried and cracked wires.
The Solution
Rather than outfitting the Ted Constant Convocation Center with temporary holiday lighting, Coastal Christmas Decor installed a permanent lighting solution that allows the convocation center to safely display lights all year long. Now, the Ted Constant Convocation Center has an abundance of lighting options! We installed perimeter lighting, roof lighting, and tree lighting, as well as downlighting on the building, which has color options that can be easily changed for holidays and special events.
The Final Product
The end result of this lighting overhaul creates a warm feeling as you approach the convocation center and an eye-catching sight as you drive by it. The permanent lighting displays helped to revitalize a building that was beginning to look outdated and provided additional safety for those attending events at the convocation center. What’s more, the lighting also helps elevate the Ted Constant Convocation Center as a centerpiece of the university. ODU was so pleased with their investment in permanent lighting they even want to install permanent lighting in other parts of the campus as well.
